Realities of E-voting Security

چکیده
E lectronic voting has been around since the 1970s, but until the US’s 2000 Gore-Bush presidential election, it was largely out of the public eye. After the Florida punched-card debacle, it became clear that our election infrastructure needed renovation. The Help America Vote Act of 2002 mandated a solution of sorts, making US$3 billion available to states to move away from their long-lived, well-understood voting processes in the name of election accuracy. Soon thereafter, e-voting came under tremendous scrutiny for its potential to improve electoral precision as well as for its potential security pitfalls.1

Double voter perceptible blind signature based electronic voting protocol
Mu et al. have proposed an electronic voting protocol and claimed that it protects anonymity of voters, detects double voting and authenticates eligible voters. It has been shown that it does not protect voter's privacy and prevent double voting. After that, several schemes have been presented to fulfill these properties. However, many of them suffer from the same weaknesses. In this p...
متن کاملSecurity Aspects of Electronic Voting Systems
An electronic voting (e-voting) system is a voting system in which the election data is recorded, stored and processed primarily as digital information. There are two types of e-voting: on-line, e.g. via Internet, and offline, by using a voting machine or an electronic polling booth. Security is the main challenge of e-voting. This is the reason why designing a secure e-voting system is very im...
متن کاملSecurity Enhancement of Chang-Lee Anonymous E-Voting Scheme
In recent years, several electronic voting (e-voting) schemes for communication networks have been proposed. In 2006, Chang and Lee presented an anonymous electronic voting scheme which can be applied in real-world elections. However, this paper shows that ChangLee’s e-voting scheme suffers from susceptibility to security attacks. As a result, some essential security requirements of their e-vot...
متن کاملA Secure and Anonymous Electronic Voting Scheme Based on Key Exchange Protocol
Voter anonymity and voting correctness are important issues for electronic voting mechanisms. Compared electronic voting with traditional 1elections, an electronic voter is able to cast his/her ballot through the Internet in any place and at any time if he/she can access the network. Therefore, convenience and mobility make electronic voting become more and more popular and electronic voting ca...
متن کاملElectronic Voting Using Identity Domain Separation and Hardware Security Modules
E-voting increasingly gains interest in e-Democracy and e-Government movements. Not only the technical security issues of electronic voting systems are of paramount importance, but also the necessity of following an all-embracing approach is challenging and needs to be addressed. This paper discusses e-voting as being a supreme discipline of e-Government. It introduces an innovative e-voting co...
